Creme Brulee

It is in what may be my favorite chocolate in the world, and I discovered today that it lives in ice cream, too. We had a MNB practice this afternoon (it appears that I am the only one the name has really caught on with, but I haven't given up hope. I am nothing if not hopeful), and Helen brought Creme Brulee ice cream. And Caro brought brownies. Kristy brought salad, but salad is important even if it doesn't have sugar in it.

So it made me think of ice cream flavors I would like to have. Maybe they make some of these, but they should be more accessible.

Watermelon (that really tastes like watermelons)
Dark chili chocolate
Super nibs (with chunks, please)
Terry's chocolate orange
Gummy sour cola bottle
Apple pie

Any other ideas?

You know, there's no stopping you from making any of those things yourself. Just grab some good vanilla ice cream, your stuff to mix in, and a spoon.

Weird sounding ice cream experiments that went horribly, horribly right:
- Warm cinnamon roll chunks
- green jell-o
- hot coffee

Also, you could get an ice cream maker. Shara bought me one, but I haven't used it too much. Maybe when you come for the Arrested Development marathon we can try some chocolate orange or nibs ice cream.

I have had gummy things in ice cream before, and the gummy stuff just gets really hard and hurts your teeth. Maybe we could melt 'em down ahead of time and toss them in our maker.

Dude, you are SO right! I don't have an ice-cream maker, but I think that vanilla and stuff would do the trick. Okay, next free weekend I have, I'm having an ice-cream party. Yeah, baby!

Oh, and I bet the warm cinnamon bun one would be devastating. Wow.

Just for you Darryl. Enjoy! (=

Watermelon Ice Cream by Dee

4 quarts watermelon pieces with juice
1 quart heavy cream
2 cups sugar
8 egg yolks
1 pound semi- sweet chocolate chips
Directions
1. Split the watermelon in half, reserving the other half for a later use. Using a large spoon,
remove the fruit from the halved watermelon. Using your hands and knife, remove all seeds
from watermelon and discard.

2. Dice watermelon into 2 inch pieces and put in a large bowl with the juice. In a large
saucepan over medium heat, combine heavy cream and sugar. Bring the mixture up to a
simmer.

3. Whisk the egg yolks until smooth and temper into the hot cream mixture. Cook the egg
mixture for four minutes. Remove from the heat.

4. Pour hot cream mixture over watermelon pieces and mix thoroughly. Cool to room
temperature.

5. Using a hand held blender puree the mixture until smooth and strain.

6. Add the ice cream mixture with the chocolate chips to the ice cream machine.

7. Follow ice cream machine directions.

8. Serve ice cream or scoop out ice cream and place ice cream back into the empty half of
watermelon.

9. Cover with plastic wrap. Freeze until very firm.

10. To serve, slice watermelon into 1 inch slices.

PS: Maybe I'll make it for next time. You guys should get a taste of my cooking or baking at some point. It actually happens on occasion... -blushes-

Caro, that sounds like two things:

1. Really tasty
2. A LOT OF WORK

Wow, it sounds like a lot of work. I think this is why I'm well suited to cooking man-style. I have no problem standing over a grill and putting every ounce of energy I possess into cooking some steaks just the way they should be done. I have yet to succeed like my friend Brock seems to do effortlessly, but still - I'll give it everything I've got.

But when you get that many directions in front of me, I freeze up completely. Just can't take it. I mean, they say "10", but a lot of those have more than one thing in. It's more like 17.

Ben and Jerry’s makes an apple pie-flavored ice cream called “American Pie” (sorry) that is pretty good. I know Globus carries some of their flavors, so you may want to check it out.

Oooooh, that does sound promising. I hope it's cinnamon-y enough. I suppose, if not, that's an easy thing to fix. Globus it is, I'll report back...
