The Olympics

Ah, it's great. The French are showing Judo; the Germans, women's air rifle.

One thing that will not be difficult to leave is the European concept of what constitutes a sport that should be shown on TV.

[EDIT] The French seem to have discovered the error of their ways. They've switched over to dressage - horses with fancy hair, trotting in a circle. Now if that's not a sport that's truly in the Olympic spirit, I don't know what would be.

At least you can see 'em! I don't have a tv... And I'm dying to watch the fencing competitions!

Hee hee. Dressage is a good European sport. Actually, it's military cavalry showing off. Just as the Greeks and the Austro-Hungarian empire of old. It may have fancy hair now, but it use to be all guts and gore and trampling and terror. Pretty exciting.

Yes, if there was just a little bit of trampling added into the mix it would be much more watchable, I think. I wonder who we can talk to about that? The IOC is just up the road, so maybe next time I'm working in Lausanne I'll stop by and see if they have a suggestion box.

My Hungarian friend (who also lived in Vienna) just laughed her head off at this... :)

Unfortunately, I think the IOC is more occupied with avoiding having to bust the Chinese for their babies on the gym team.
