I watched a bit of this show last night, and it was interesting. I think I want to get all the way through before commenting in detail, but I did find it fascinating. As more or less an insider to the sub-culture they're showing, it was really intriguing for me to see what bits they kept and what they left out, what people said that, I know, means one thing when, in the context it's shown sounds, very much like it means something else. And it's remarkable how things that would seem innocuous at worst become so much more ominous when there's a soundtrack of brooding, eerie, minor music flowing underneath it.
Anyone else seen it? What were your impressions?

You are *such* a Pisces. I'm just saying.
What station? I'm intrigued..
Dandy, I don't even know what that means. I have a vague sense of Pisces being kind of wishy-washy or something, but that's about it. So, not something I've ever really aimed for...
A (or E), it's on disc; you can borrow it if you want.
I'm a Pisces - and more wishy than washy. It was a compliment. Don't you learn all about these pagan beliefs in Jesus Camp?
"Diplomacy, subtlety, sympathy, tact, and a willingness to listen and learn are said to characterise people born under the sun sign of Pisces. A typical Piscean is supposed to have a ready understanding of the problems of others, and therefore should have a capacity for patience and persistence when dealing with all kinds of people. On the other hand, it is also said that Pisceans can often be overemotional and oversensitive to the point of being peevish, fretting, lacking in initiative, or becoming deceitful, hypocritical, turn to drink and narcotics, or even become alcoholics."
We may have covered it, but I probably missed a lot because my ears were ringing from my drums. Oh well.
I like the "Diplomacy, subtlety, sympathy, tact, and a willingness to listen and learn" part, but I think I may be the least likely person I know to become an alcoholic. Which is why I know I'll never have a career as a professional musician...
Don't give up so easily - there's still drugs and violence.
I don't have the addiction thing either (half a beer is my limit - it's freakish really). Cept chocolate. And coffee. And apricot jam. Hmmm . . .
Got double helpings of some of the other areas (guess which) instead.
Didn't realize you were a drummer. Met some of the best drummers in the world for work this year. Groovy.
I'm back - did you miss me? Is this Jesus Camp a documentary which interviews kids about their faith, etc.? I saw something on TV several months ago which could have been excerpts from this. I think it was done by a couple of college students - comparing Xn schools vs. public, etc. Does this sound the same? Where could I get it here? Any ideas? I'd like to see the whole thing if this is it - rather than just the few chunks shown on a daytime talk show... Also - do record some of the chick's singing. I may have some tape of you - if it's still intact. That's something I should check out when recovering from my next surgery...
To Darryl's Mom, I rented it from Rogers and I've seen it at Blockbuster. It was a new release for a while and may still be.
To Darryl
It was interesting really, not what I expected. And, being a Christian and having been to several pentecostal services I really didn't see anything that made me think "Surely NO!! How can they do this! OUR DEAR CHILDREN WE MUST SAVE THEM!!!!" That is until the music started playing. It's so funny that's exactly what Andrea and I picked up on when we watched it.
Sorry... behind in my comments!
Dandy, I'm jealous. If Vinnie Caliouta was among them, I think I may actually cry.
Mom, yeah, I did. And, as Nicole said, you can rent it most places. Have you tried netflix? It would probably be a good fit for you.
And Nicole, I know what you mean. The music does hurt.
